    STAFF AND BACKGROUNDS

         Kim Hysert   PRESIDENT

Kim Hysert started his Telecom Career in 1973 working in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for Alberta Government Telephones as a casual employee upgrading patch panels located in the AGT Len Werry Building. He was hired permanently in 1974 as a Line and Station Installer where he learned distribution cabling for commercial and residential applications, along with completing his Telecommunications Electrician's Certification through SAlT Calgary. In Calgary Kim was responsible for installation of rural services, residential and commercial cabling /wiring and installation of key equipment.

In 1979 he successfully bid on a combination job located in Banff, Alberta where he was introduced to Data, PBX, and Central Office in a Hospitality marketplace. After completing over 100 certified courses through Nortel, NEC, Siemens, Mitel, Etelco and Plessey, Kim was soon selected to be dedicated to the CP Hotel accounts as the prime technician for the installation and maintenance of their Nortel communications equipment for all 3 hotels -the Banff Springs, Chateau Lake Louise and Delta Lodge

@ Kananaskis. His success in this area lead him to volunteer positions as distribution oftiming cables and subcontracting to Tag Heurfor FIS (International Ski Federation) raCing from 1973 to 1997. He also was allocated charge hand for AGT as communication contractor for the 1987 Olympic preview setup at 2 different venues Canmore Nordic Center and Nakiska Ski Resort. In 1988 he was solely dedicated to Nakiska for the Olympics and was directly responsible for data and voice communications from that venue. From the Olympics to APEC conferences Kim was exposed and relied upon to set up, install and test data and voice connections for different government organizations and was responsible for its security and reliability.

In 1994 Kim Hysert left AGT to pursue an opportunity in the business marketplace to provide data and voice services in the Bow Valley Region. This was supported by the CP Hotels and several other hotels and private businesses in the area due to Alberta Government Telephones entering into privatization. He soon was joined by his AGT work mate and business partner Steve Michie to start ROCKY MOUNTAIN TELECOM LIMITED.

Steve Michie Principal It was around this time he started working with Kim Hysert.Much time was spent during construction of Kananaskis Village including Kananaskis Golf Course, The Lodge at Kananaskis, The Kananaskis Inn and various Provincial Government Buildings. In the early 1990s Steve was assigned more often to the Banff area to work on upgrade projects to the Rimrock Inn and Parks Canada Centrex.

Steve Michie started his career in Feb 1976 as an apprentice Communication Electrician in Canmore, Alberta, Canada for Alberta Government Telephones.Mentoring under Ken Unger we covered the areas of Morley ,Exshaw , Kananaskis, and Canmore with occasional forays into Banff. The apprentice classification was combinationman which included single line and station, business systems, cable repair, central office jumpering , as well as what ever was required. This was the norm in the smaller communities across the province.

In 1980 the development of Kananaskis Country and Peter Lougheed Provicial Park began and Steve was assigned to serving this area as it was being built up. 1987 began the preliminary setup for the upcoming Calgary Olympics. Although not involved directly with venues during the Games, support ofcompanies operating off venue made for a very busy year.

1994 was the year Alberta Government Telephones was exiting the Business Services and rebranding to Telus . Some ofthe customers in the Bow Valley wanted an alternative to the exit strategy offered by AGT / Telus and this was the momemtum that started Rocky Mountain Telecom Ltd. Kim Hysert would be the driver and Steve Michie would partner up for support.
